When a course marshal we are not watching the first place riders or lapped riders per se, we're watching a section of the track so not following those changes. Its more on the flaggers and scoring to keep track of that, if they can't get us a radio call and there is a TON of radio traffic, its hard to do it and could pull it in confusion on the wrong rider. Not saying its right or wrong, those are only a few of the concerns. At local or regional races I think its a bit easier to do..

DP-
One reason is we run with 2 flags (red/yellow) and its hard to affix them to the boat and manage changing them all out. So the spot check is in front of the finish line where the flags are pulled. It's very difficult on the race track with the poor sizing and colors of race numbers to identify who is being lapped.

DP-As far as the blue flag goes, typically its the race director who may be in the flagger tower, if not its the flagger in the tower who has a blue/yellow flag. At world finals we dont' have blue/yellow flags on the track.

I have a question about watercraft racing.
How many Blue flags with the Yellow stripe is required during a race?
Does all the marshalls have to have that particular flag?

Thanks Shawn, and a Big thanks for everything you have done and continue to fight for in preventing pwc bans. Some emails I recieved showed me ways to fight back against surf riders rediculous statemnets and outdated information on pwcs. Anything else we can do or help you with?
