    1997 785 pro rpm?????

what should be the operating max rpm on a 97 785 pro. The polaris service manual says 7500 max rpm, and 7800 rev limited on a 97, but higher on a 98.

My 97 runs 7540 at full throttle, however I have seen many people saying to run closer to 8000.

    thanks

With a 99 cdi, I believe you will see the higher RPMs. The 99's had a different timing curve that is why they are the prefered cdi. On my 97 with a 99 cdi, I am hitting 7900/7950 with the yellow jumper wire cut. I think that eliminates the rev limiter. I am not exactly sure what the 97 cdi will max out at. We need Lugs or one of the other 785 guys to verify what i am saying here.

My '97 used to run 7700-7800.

Currently i'm pulling 7200-7400 but am trying to get more in the 7800 range. I'm thinking my MFD may be going south, but that's a whole other story

Cutting the yellow/blk wire that loops out of the CDI then back in can get you a 200-300 more rpm's, if it will pull that high. I don't think it completely bypasses the rev limiter though. Cutting this wire isn't just gonna instantly give you more rpm's. If your set-up is running 7800 and hitting rev limit every now and then, you can cut the wire and run the 8000 range essentially.

7200+ and the ski is gonna "feel" like it's running top notch. obviously more to gain, but it will feel fine.

You may see a mph increase of probably 1-2 mph with another 300 rpm's.

it sounds like you are really close to it running right on.

If you are looking for more, their is numerous things to check and verify

Had a 1997 PRO 785, Ran it for (3) seasons, a few bolt-ons, HSP Heads, V-Force, Ran just under 7800 R.P.M.'s, changed to the $400+ '98 CDI waste of $$$$$$, IMO for my combination.

Just a couple of suggestions, minor problems I ran into w/my ski:
    1) clean your exhaust valves
    2) check exhaust (cylinder to pipe) gaskets, to see if they're spraying/leaking water
    3) factory main jets,170/165/170, 72.5 pilots low speed 1 3/8 turns out, high speed 0 turns. dealer had fattened it up per some B.S POLARIS update, re-installed the leaner jets, ran strong !
    4) Ignition w/1997 cdi is 32* BTDC @ 3000 R.P.M.
    W/98 CDI @ 36* BTDC

I still have the Service manual for the 1997 PRO 785 and a May 1997 copy of the "PRO REPORT newsletter that has some technical info in it if anyone needs a copy.

    Hope this helps!!

Could you send me the 97 pro service manual and the pro report. Would be greatly appreciated, since my polaris manual says nothing about a PRO.

How about posting the PRO Report in the tech section for all to see?
