    Hypothetical 94 mph Honda

    Hey,
    It’s been a while since my last post. We have been trying to get things done, but it’ hard due to some personal issues. Let mestart out by setting the record straight, our ski went 93.4 mph. There is nothing stock about it. We went out testing only one other time since then trying out some factory parts that have been modified and we couldn’t get past 83 mph @ 7,900 rpm. We are so over that. Honda designed a ski for the general public and family as to be dependable and safe to operate around 60-64 mph and 6,000-6,400 rpm. Honda did a good job, everything in and on the motor is dialed in to do just that. The camshafts are made for torque for the low to mid range, the turbo has been modified from the original design by going to a smaller compressor to match the rpm and exhaust housing size to match. The intake is restrictive everywhere including the velosity stacks inside which are almost touching the cover of the plenum. The intercooler is matched and is very limited and resricted with all of the direcetional and form changes. The intake was designed for non-turbo use and adapted for turbo use. Honda’s exhaust manifold is not designed for maximum rpm and power it is very tight inside again made for the use that they wanted not to mention the rest of the exhaust. When have you ever seen a turbo racecar or any with that much exhaust and trying to push 2 gallons of water through the muffler and up to the outlet. This is a lot of back pressure. Remember this works great for what it was intended for, wrong for what you are trying to do. There is nothing wrong with the block or head. An engine is just a big air pump with pistons going up and down and valves that open and close. You need to get as much air into the engine as possible add fuel and ignition, burn down then get rid of it as quickly and effifiently as possible. What is extremely critical is valve timing, ignition and cam pulse timing. Get it wrong and you have a slug. To make an engine that makes power in the mid to upper range you will have to get rid of everything factory, induction system fuel system, ignition, exhaust etc.You can’t take a 2-1/2 ton family SUV and turn it into a promod. We have seen many people trying to do just that. We know what we can do with a stock ski, we know the limit and we also know how to go beyond that. Here are our mods.

    *engine 1200 cc
    *camshafts have over an extra 100ths lift and more duration closer to race specs
    *intakes and exhaust valves are larger to the max
    *head has been ported and blended (minimum polishing)
    *head is O’ringed
    *pistons are Ross made to our wanted specs and comp/ratio
    *rods are re-worked
    *assembly is balanced
    *aftermarket retainers and keepers (wider seat angle)
    *double valve srings good for 12,000 rpm
    *3” intake plenum
    *70mm single throttle body
    *3” inlet/outlet directional 14” intercooler good for 700 hp worth of flow
    (note: factory cooler is good for 150- 160 temp 250 without our cooler 96-102 deg F depends on
    boost)
    *all intake and discharge track is 3”
    *cold air induction at the back of the ski
    *aftermarket large adjustable fuel pressure regulator\
    *all fuel lines in and out are larger
    *fuel tank pick-up is replaced with larger and moved to rear of tank
    *factory fuel pump is removed
    *fuel pump is a Bosch performance pump (100 psi)
    *injectors are over 500cc
    *static fuel pressure is 55 psi
    *ignition timing is pre-set and locked in ( no retard used forspeed runs)
    *highly modified exhaust manifold ( being replaced with 1.5”primary to 4” collector 4 into1, 316
    S/S
    *3” open exhaust
    *re-routed cooling
    *intake blow-off valve\
    *k&n air filter
    *VF 22 turbo including exhaust wheel and machined exhaust housing
    *fuel pressure and boost pressure gauges a must
    *solas prop with a lot of pitch and aot more added
    *custom ride plate ( does not look like most) made to keep prop stream low in water
    *intake grate minimal for runs
    *programmable ecu ( fuel ignition etc, closed and open loop w/ oxygen sensor) we run open loop
    for runs
    *C-16 fuel
    *bost level well over the 20’s

    Note* the 94 mph run was made @ 9,200 rpm we have had the motor up to 10,400 rpm during load and prop testing.


    We will be going out again for speed runs on August 8th – 9th. There will be no less than 2 Honda reps from our local sponsor and as of now a factory rep. We will also have an off duty cop with a calibrated radar and 2 gps’. Hopefully this will be enough to put all doubts to rest. We will post the run on youtube. There are some specs that we have not given at this time. Our time is still limited at this point but we will try to keep you updated weekly and post pics regularly.

    Our second ski is identical with the exception of the following:
    *larger oval water cooled plenum
    *8 injectors
    *2 fuel pumps
    *self contained closed loop intercooling system
    *TO4 hybrid turbo
    *S/S headder and exhaust
    *more camshaft
    *much larger and better thinwall tubular inline 18” intercooler

    This engine will be going into our carbon/kevlar ski, it weighs only 480lbs see pics Saturday
    My background : I have been building and drag racing only turbo cars for 38 years

    · turbo company for 20 years
    · ran NHRA AA/TA and BB/AT competion eliminator class (turbo)
    · built turbo cars for road racing
    · ran 7.16 et @ 196 mph back in the 80’s
    · in the marine industry for 15 years
    · worked with exhaust an hulls from yachts to go fast boats

    any honda watercraft that goes more than 60mph is impressive. 94?!?!? I'm definately going to need some serious proof. Is it a honda motor in a gpr hull, or is it a stock honda hull?

    Guys I don't know, ProMod has taken a bunch of chit and is still around... If his Honda will run like he says it will, I bet quite a few people will take notice.


    Then you have OBI that has the meth injection kit! With as many left over honda's that are out there... I'm just glad to see they aren't just all stock!
