Very weird cylinder repair, See pics and tell me your opinion

So, I bought three 1300 pv cylinders from a member of this forum.

I received them with a very weird surprise repair.

Does anyone know if this is common or why was it done?
And what could have happened there?

I've seen those on some 1200 cylinders were the ear breaks off. I am going to say corrosion or from vibration from the pipe bracket.

loose exhuast bracket and rough water. lots of slapping broke off the mt ear. Is it only 1 of 3? Weld looks strong, but I would shift it to the front were it not used. these should have disclosd this to you prior to the sale.

It is cast aluminum and welds pretty easy looks like a decent job so I would not worry too much. the main thing is that the heights are the same. The member should have disclosed this to you.

    Thanks for the info.

The member didn't disclosed many things about these cylinders, like a wire insert (helicoil) in the exhaust port which should be torque to 28 ft/lbs, to me thats a critical point that could easily fail

See if you can workout a return or credit from the member since this should have been disclosed. If the member refuses then post their name so we all can know who to avoid.

    Good Luck

The Helicoil will be stronger than the original threads.

He did credit me, but wasn't able to explain me what happened with the bracket, so I had to ask here.

About the helicoil, I'm not sure it's stronger than the original.

I could be wrong, but I read in a helicoil manual the maximum torque was 6 Nm and the machine shop staff advice me to replace it with a solid insert.

By the way, the machine shop has available the short inserts, does anyone here have in stock or know where to buy Big (long) Time-Sert inserts individualy?
