99 SLTH 700 - Dies Accelerating above Idle

I bought a 99 SLTH 700. The ski starts easy but dies trying to accelerate above idle.

    I have done the following:

    1. Rebuilt dual carbs.
    2. replaced all fuel lines.
    3. installed in-line fuel filter. (removed screen in water seperator, it seemed distorted and bent, not sure why)
    4. installed different carbs.

Still dies trying to accelerate above idle. I can use the choke or very small quick throttle pumps to get through the dead spot. Once above idle I get between 6400 and 6600 RPM's and between 41 and 43 mph. Sometimes it will die when I let go of WOT and return to idle. A few times, while idling at the dock, it would idle at 1400 rpm's for a while then suddenly drop to 800-900 rpm's.

I attached a fuel line to the carb and ran it into a gas can at the dock, still died trying to increase rpm above idle. Seems to start to die above 2000-2200 rpm's

The spark plugs look good after checking from a WOT run.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

If I have learned anything from these guys....

    Have you checked compression?

Are you sure the carbs are adjusted to factory specs?

Do you have enough fuel pressure?

    Jason,

Thanks for the response. I finally tried to pressurize the fuel system. I could not get the fuel system to pressuirze, so I started looking for a leak.

Now, I know this sounds simple, but I missed a huge clue. The fuel cap chain was broken off when I bought the ski. I figured no problem, just don't drop it and I will be ok. However, the chain was actually broken off inside the fuel cap. After trying to pressurize my fuel system a light goes off in my dinky little 8 bit brain. I look at the fuel cap and there is a hole where the chain should be attached. Sure enough, I can blow air right through the fuel cap.

Did a quick temporary repair and now the fuel system pressurized and it runs like a champ.

Now I need to find a fuel cap.

...Later generation Polaris filler neck and gap cap can be retro-fitted, or a Sea-Doo part can be installed.

The Ski-Doo 513033025 gas cap for the REV snowmobiles also fits the Polaris PWC filler neck

    K447,

Thanks. I saw your post before but I wasn't sure if it would work on my 99 SLTH. Looking at the pictures I think the ski-doo cap is female type. My SLTH fuel cap is male type.
