    FZR/SHO - Forged Pistons & Rods - Debate

With all the power that is being produced sooner or later something major is going to fail in these big 1,812 cc motors. Many are wondering where the weak points are. Some of the manufactures on the market like R&D, Maccracing & Rius Racing are recommending upgrading various internals for more reliable and long-term performance. However, RIVA has yet to make any mention of any beefing up of any internals to support the type of power that is being produced. Many folks here on this website are pushing well over 8,000 RPM's.

Here is your question of the day
Do you think the $2,000 cost of upgrading the Pistons and Connecting Rods are worth the price or is it over-kill?

    Forged Pistons

    Connecting Rods

I think that at some point the upgrade is indeed needed. However, when and what the cost for the parts really should be is not clear yet. Unless, the Marketing is correct...

I will care about this once I start to hear about thrown connecting rods and blown pistons on oem internals. Until then.... well, I have 4 years full warranty coverage....

I don't think it's worth it until you know at what point it fails at. Notice none of the manufacturers tell you that yet.

I think it's still too early to know what the longevity of the stock internals will be. I plan to shell out the cash for forged stuff for the engine going into my conversion boat...I'd rather spend 2K now for piece of mind than 5K later on a replacement engine.

+1 that's most of my beef.
    Hey buy this just cuz.....

And, a certain intercooler kit that was for sale way overpriced hasn't left my memory yet...

also maybe a good idea once you go that far with all the other mod's for the FZ's plus pistons and rods now you are between 10 and 11k you may want to buy an everyday ski imo . but at least all the 1812 cc owners cant bitch about not having a enough go FAST parts ....which sometimes is the case ...so go Yammi

It's not comprehensive but I'll let you know what I can without pissing off those who have quietly helped me with their innovations.

Its not the rods I would worry about at high boost. Its the ring lands on shitty pistons I would worry about. Using that as a general comment.
