Spraying down engine bay after riding?

Just wondering if anyone sprays down their engine bay with a degreaser, cleaner, or something like WD-40 or gunk engine brite? I had a friend who used to do it to his old 99 GP1200 after every ride and the thing looked spotless under the seat at 155hrs. I was thinking of doing it with my 07 GP1300R but didnt want to hurt anything or use a substance that will deteriorate hoses or lines, etc.

    I use Corrosion X.

No where around here sells it any more though. Some times I use Boeshield or Corrosion Block from West Marine.

I use WD40 which is great for the entire electricals and engine area. it is a water dispellant. I used to run an old British Leyland Mini and it wouldn't run through our winters without regular spraying of the engine and HT system! I always do it when the engine's warm, after I've washed it off with a freshwater hose, and it all looks like new, even though it's 10 years old.

Do spray the hose directly on the engine?
