2001 Polaris SLX Reliability/Performance?
I just bought a 2001 SLX 1200, can anyone fill me in on it?
- How is the performance compared to a seadoo 951?
- Are they reliable?
- What should I do for maintenance?

That is A GREAT looking ski(HOT BLACK)!! I have 2 polaris 1200's and have had NO issues with them except for the mfd going out on 1 of them(which is no surprise).
You have A fast, fun craft, and it will be reliable if it is taken care of.
Before I owned my Polaris I had A '98 SeaDoo XP Limited with the 951(good motor), and I can honestly say that my Polaris Pro1200 would Spank the SeaDoo! I can also tell you that just today I constantly beat A friends '99 GSX limited 951. He was sooooo mad, he could not keep up!! That does not mean i dont like SeaDoo, I actually like the look of his pwc, but it just could not com-peat against the polaris1200.

I've had one of these for I think 6 years, a 2000 SLX. It's been GREAT! I think I've got about 240 hours on it so far. The only real problem I had was my brother-in-law sucked a rock in while beaching it. When I restarted, I heard the rock go thru, and about 20 sec later the stub shaft broke. Can't blame the ski for that!
I have only done basic maintenance, never even fogged the thing for winter storage. Still pulls over 62mph on gps, and since my wife uses the pump as a rock tumbler just about every other weekend, I know it's significantly faster. I seem to recall a gps reading some time ago of 63+, but can't find my notes.

I'm talking about the ski, not your wife.

The best part is showing her the pile of gravel (like maybe 4 lbs) that I pulled out of the pump after asking her "Did you hear anything going thru the pump?" and her saying "Why, no!"......

Best mod you can make to an SLX! Definitely gets a lot of comments....

You need to get one of those silver paint markers to trim out the rest of the E. That would look factory! I like it!
