Hull Drain Mod
Bought my 05 ski used. It is the big bore ski. It has always had worse hi speed handling than my 06 ski. Always fought a hi speed bounce, and a left to right chine walk, no matter what i did, plate angle, tab shimming, didnt matter, it wasnt perfect like my 06 is.
Thanks to Jim and Nate, they persuaded me to drill a hole in my hull at the rear most point of the keel, to drain any water that may be trapped between the hull and its inner liner.
I was pessimistic to say the least, but finally did it, (i can be stubborn), and low and behold, it pissed water out my 1/8 inch hole for 10 minutes straight!
Drilled the same hole in my 06 and nothing but fiberglass dust came out, no water.
Rode the ski for the first time today since drilling the hull hole, and its unbelieveable.
Tha difference is dramatic. Handling wasnt better, it was flawless!
I took out .100 shims from my tabs and can still go into a full superman at 84 with ZERO bounce or chine.
Needless to say more shim is coming out of the tabs..
Anyone who hasnt done this, DO IT!
Drill a 1/8 inch hole in the rear most point of the keel, and after its done pissing, fill it with marine tex...
I suspect there are many skis out there that will benefit from this,
Thanks Jim and Nate...

I have noticed the skis get water in the holes by the motor mounts. I will get pics up in a bit.
This might have been mentioned before but I found at least 3 gals sitting in the stringers.

I drill the same spot about every 3-4 months now ...

could you pump it out using a thin nozzle on a wet/dry vac and sticking it down into the hull?
I've always noticed a little water underneath my engine when I open it up, always the same amount, just dont know how to get it out (without drilling a hole).

I too have a ski that has the exact same symptoms. The chine walk that NEVER goes away is a little baffling. I bet there is water between the layers as you have mentioned. I never thought of that! Its an 03 that had a pump shoe issue in its early life, I bet the water got there after it filled up and has been there ever since. The hole thats drilled into the keel is on the outside of the ski or the inside? The outside makes more sense to me but I just want to verify before I drill. I'll let you know what I find.
