    I need some direction

I have an HO pump about 50% saved for but afterwards I'll be considering reeds or heads.

Will either add/subtract from the reliability of my ski?

Are the VR3 reeds worth the $150 over the VF2 reeds?

Are the Riva and R&D heads the same?

Both provide similar performance gains, correct?

The Vf3s offer better service life than the VF2s - REEDS won't affect reliability.
Higher Compression may increase wear on the engine but unless you are above 175 psi it is not enough wear worry about. Might need a little higher octane gas though which adds to cost. just my 2 cents

Go with the head mod first. If you want to save money go with a machined stock head.

R&d heads are $386. plus the girdle kit for $165 to be safe. =$550 having stock head shaved is much cheaper but the r&d heads do look good Click image for larger version.

Lowell or Jims Performance both mill heads... Once your hull mods and safety issues are out of the way I would....

    Mill the head...
    Vf3's and 3* timing key
Hit up Waterwoody for some fresh porting...

Next... I would race all your friends...

    another option

..hey how bout this, get the 150 psi heads, then have your oem head milled to 165 or therabouts not to exceed 93 octane....LOL .

Actually, b/c I'm lazy, I went w/heads for right now instead of reeds based on acessability to the motor (wish the intake was located up high like my kawi stxr). My concern is w/ maintence on carbon fiber v. a 150 head. The only maintence issue I had w/ my R & D 150 heads were checking the torque with the ss supplied bolts.

Oh, Dave, I'm told by the Riva folks they don't make their 150 heads anymore and are selling the R & D equivilent. R & D makes them anyway, so I'm not sure it matters.

    Jimbob

06 gp 1300 stage 2 less reeds; plus race filter, m-line seat/hydroturf mat.

so the aftermarket reeds require maintanence? did i read that correct?
