    Endurance Race

Hi Guys, Im looking at taking the Matrix in a 90 km (55 mile) endurance race here in New Zealand. It has a stop at the half way point to refuel and then a mass restart to the finish. Its from Akaroa to Lyttleton (if you have google earth 5 here the link)

This is my first endurance race so was wondering if anyone had some tips for me. I'm not going out to try and win it, but not looking stupid would also be good. I've ordered another pump wedge which I will machine down to 3 degrees as it open ocean and will more than likely be rough. (They call the race off if it gets over a 3.5 metre swell !! )

I will enter the naturaly aspirated class and the veteran class (over 40) any tips would be great.

    Cheers John

Send PMs to Pirate33, and Polarisracer166.

Ph2ocraft might also have some tips

Not sure who else around here has raced the Matrix

Have you changed your through-hull bearing carrier seals recently?

The only way to race is to win,And Pirates stock Matrix has kicked some major ass offshore already. Check out this link, Most the Offshore racers are on this forum you'll see there.

The seals don't last long in salt water, and if they fail during the pounding of a race, you will not win. You could flood the hull.

Expected lifetime for the MSX seals in salt water is well under 100 hours, even with careful de-salting after riding.

Sealed MSX through-hull driveshaft bearing assembly
How to check for leaks at the MSX through-hull bearing
Recommended replacement/rebuild of MSX through-hull seals is every 100 hours or 3 years (especially in salt water)
How to remove the MSX drive shat
How to remove and replace the MSX seals and bearing
Generic replacement bearing is a 6205.
    The inner seal is 25 x 52 x 10 (substituted with generic 25x52x7)
The two outer seals are 25x35x10 (substituted with generic 25x35x7)

Pirate, its a 2004 assembled by Baxter from a brand new ski. What wedge do you run in open water?
