    Polaris Virage

Are these skis any good? I rode one way back in 2000. It was a fast machine!
    Are they pretty reliable?
There are a lot of used ones in my area, I am thinking of one of them to purchase.
For some reason, I am fond of Polaris!

I have 2 of the 2 cylinder carburated models and when their running well they are a nice ride. I like the size as they comfortably carry 2 folks and have enough "oomph" to pull a skier. I've been tinkering with mine as they have a few small problems and I just don't ride them enough...

I have a 2002 Virage TXi (1200 three cylinder, fuel injected). Fast enough for me, it tops out just over 60 mph.

The Polaris two cylinder engine is one of the most fuel efficient on the water, and its compact size makes it quite easy to work on and maintain. Available in both carburetor and fuel injected versions.

It is very important to thoroughly inspect and evaluate any used PWC purchases. Many owners do not properly maintain and care for these things, and that tends to degrade reliability.

Any PWC is generally as reliable as the maintenance put into it.

    There are some common items that should be checked, updated, or replaced. Some are listed here;
I just bought a Polaris PWC - what should I do?

The Virage hull is made from SMC. If the hull has been abused and wave pounded, it can develop cracks in the internal molded hull ribs. This is not a problem unless the cracking is extensive, or you expect to also ride it hard with lots of wave pounding.

Look at the ribs around and forward of the front engine mounts, as this is the area that is most likely to crack first.

    I can get a 2001 Virage TX for $1200.
    It seams to run good.
The problem is he hit a rock, and put a nice hole towards the rear of the boat!
Can this be fixed? Should it?
What else can be done to ensure it will be a reliable ski?
I would like a winter project!

i have the 2001 tx 1200 cc model , and i have been chasing a few minor eletrical problems . nothing serious if you have the abilities and some knowledge of the systems and the right tools to trace . very fun and quick machine . best of both worlds .......easy to throw around for one person , and very comfy for two !! very large fuel tank for long rides . and nice looking !!! all depends on your wants and needs !! i do not do any heavy wave riding so it suits me perfect .

How big of a hole ?
    Did the boat sink?
Did water get into the engine or electrical box ?

The 01 elect is normally good.
NO watercraft likes to be flooded.
Electricity and water do not mix

This polaris is the kind of ski I am looking for. I want something fun solo, and comfy with 2 up.
    How fast are they?

my mfi reads at 63mph , but some body told me more like 59. either way it is plenty fast for me . got a buddy that bought a 09 seadoo 255 hp , and it does 70. but how long do you really go that fast for , and 9 mph difference is like 8 seconds behind over 2 miles !!
