    bottom of piston broke off.

    hi guys,

i had the bottom of my pto piston break off and iguess it got up on top of the piston and chewed the top the piston and the dome all up.i have the pto jug off,the crank seems fine,i'm thinking all the chunks went out exhaust manifold.could a crank out of index have something to do with this.i ran up on to some mud a month ago and it seem like it hasn't run right since.if not any suggestions as to why the piston broke off.

Most likely something came loose and hung in a port.Check the intake port at the bottom edge and see if you find any marks there. What does the head look like? Could be a needle bearing. Again, tough to say without pictures.and yes, you'll need the Jug & head sitting on it, and gaskets in position.

    Yes.

TDC on one piston is BDC on the other - 180 degrees out of phase.

On a 2 cyl,you could do it with the jug off.

ok last nite, since i already took the jug off i got the mag piston to top dead center and i was looking down in the pto cylinder(i could see the crank real good with jug off) and it looked like it was bottom dead center to me.since it's only a 2 cylinder do you guys think that this is indexed alright?also a question about honing(sorry about the inexperience),what size hone do i use for the cylinder?and what size is the original size of cylinder?thanks for all the help,i appreciate it.
