    Seeing Smoke?

    Hey Guys,

I finally got around to putting my stock exhaust back on, I've been wanting to do it for a while. I removed a gibson and put a stock waterbox and riva rear pipe on it. I also put on a un-cut j-pipe. I ran it on the hose and I am seeing a little smoke coming from where the j-pipe meets the manifold. The bell on the end of the manifold looks good. I just don't understand where the smoke is coming from.

Are you tightening down the v band clamp all the way? you gotta make sure the J-pipe/Manifold is sitting correctly in the grove on the clamp. My guess would be that one of the two isn't sitting right not allowing you to tighten the clamp 100%

I just went and loosened the clamp all the way and it seems to be in the groove sealing all the way around. Maybe I didn't tighten the clamp enough. I was wondering if it is common to see this with a stock waterbox. It has been a while since I've ran a stock waterbox. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the back-pressure, since the gibson and shorty waterboxes are free-flowing? I dunno? I'm going to try to tighten it more.

I've never seen this exact problem before but I can see how it would happen, just make sure that the V-band clamp is as tight as you can get it

    Hey Alex,

The problem solved itself. I bought the J-pipe used and it must of had oil or something on it. I couldn't run it long enough on the hose to burn it off. I called Erik at Speedfreeks and he suggested running it and keeping an eye on it at the lake. I ran it for a while and it burned off whatever was on it and now its good. Thanks again Alex and Erik

Robbie did you maybe clean your J-Pipe or spray something on it.. like fluid film or etc. I just ask as if you get any thing between outer shell and metal hose it will burn off. just a thought as I've seen that happen and lt makes it look like is smoking from flange.edited: sorry Robbie, on I phone and just now read your last post. glad that was all it was.
