    Weird problem with 95 slx 780

    Hey how's it going guys I'm new to the forum and the jet ski world. I just picked up a 95 slx 780 but it has a weird little problem. It won't rev past 4900. It kinda breaks up and also sounds like a rev limiter. I have done a little research but have come up with nothing. The limiter for gas or heat is 4200 and I even unplugged the grey wire from the cdi to see if that would help. I also changed the plugs and pulled the flywheel and cleaned it and the stator. but still won't go past 4900. I am kinda leaning towards the coils but am not sure. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Forgot to mention. This is with the ski out of the water with a garden hose hooked up

    Check your carb settings for your specific model and year. Sounds like it's too rich and breaking up because of it.

    Also try cutting your plug wires back about 1/4" and rescrewing the plug boots back on.

    Definitely, agree with both suggestions here. ^^^^^^

    As an FYI, YOUR factory carb settings are as follows:

    Carbs are 38mm Mikuni Super BN's
    Pilot jets = 72.5
    Main/highs = 105

    High speed screw(turns out from lightly seated)
    M=7/8 C=3/4 P=1 1/8

    Low speed screw(turns out...)
    1/2 turn for all 3

    needle/seats 2.0 w/10-18psi pop off

    Recommended idle, stock, 1250 RPM

    Good luck...
