    $25 dollar compression tester does it work ?

    Are these legit ?
    My SC bursted into the engine and I'm thinking about doing compression testing after I clean out the filters.

    As nice as that compression tester looks... and as nice as the price is... it unfortunately doesn't have the proper size adaptor. The 4-tec plugs are 12 mm.

    I actually took my "age old" compression gauge and hooked it up to my Riva valve train tool (hose) to make a suitable compression tester.

    Compression tester

    Ian,
    Harbor Freight Tools has a compression tester gauge with 4 different adapters, one of which is 12mm for about $22.00. Works great. Even comes with red plastic case.

    I got one at Advanced Auto for 30 bucks. Most auto stores have them. It came with a couple different fittings and it worked great.

    Did you lose your washers??? Were they not replaced with metal??

    I had metal. Looks my IC busted a core when I was playing with splitting the water. Little plastic piece from the OPAS was stripped when I put it back in and it blew out. IC got hot, busted and water went into the SC and then poof SC was in pieces.
    Looks like an 8 dollar piece of plastic is costing me some bucks.
    I have a new IC. Was able to get a used SC with the Riva Gen 2 from the classified. Now if I can finish fishing through the engine maybe I can get back on the water this season.
    So far I've drained the oil and my circular oil filter had like 3-4 pieces of little tiny pieces of metal like the size of a hang nail (not sure how else to describe). My oil seive is missing from the oil scavenger. I'm now working on pulling the whole oil scavenger so I can see if the oil pump gear things are damaged. I'm still deciding whether I want to play with the magneto filter area.

    I'm thinking I might try some odd methods of engine cleaning. The SC isn't magnetic so I can use high power magnets. I'm thinking maybe a high power vaccum cleaner and putting it into where I put the IC blockoff and then maybe down into the spark plug holes.

    Not that it helps but the identical compression tester being sold on ebay is available at Harbor Freight for $9.
