How much performance do I lose with corroded ride plate?
It has pits from corrosion and I ground it down a little, but want to know if I'm wasting my time trying to smooth it out. I'm not trying to eek out a lot of speed, but not sure if its harder on the engine, impairs handling, spinning, jumping, etc... Should I just get it as smooth as I can and call it a day or is it really worth it to get a clean one?

You can find a cheap used one to put on.

Thanks - so does it really affect performance enough to get a new/used one if I'm not out to win any races? At some point I'm going to have to start prioritizing with the nickel and dime stuff!
