    Riva grate desighn???

I installed a Riva grate on the FZS, and noticed the rear mounts have about a 1/4 inch smaller diameter step to it and wondering why it was there?

If you would grind it off it would set up in the hull, and blend in with the ride plate better it looks so much like an after thought.

wondering if anybody tryed it allready?
or if you would just loose hook up with out any speed gain?

I noticed the same thing when installing on my FZR today...the Riva grate does not fit quite as flush as the stock grate. I figured I would deal with it until I order the pump seal kit.

My Riva Intake grate with their pump seal kit also does NOT sit flush with the hull and ride plate. It has about a 1/8-1/4" gap/step to it. I sealed the pump/transom as best I could, used 5200 on the pieces, and they fit very flush. I trimmed any excess off. I've got the bolts pretty tight, so I think it's the Riva design? I'll try to take pics in the morning. I just spent all day finishing up the stupid Intake Manifold upgrade. Holy S***, what a pain in the ass. Oh this was on my SHO by the way.

My stock intake grate didn't fit flush and i had to grind the mounting tabs to get it to sit flush. Same with my R&D grate and riva grate.

The TBM Racing 8-Point Adjustable Intake Grates, which will be available in a week or so, fit like a champ to the FZR/FZS.

Jerry that pictures shows gap that I was talking about. So for best results we should be grinding down the little rear mounts extention till it is flush?

i saw the same thing on my fzr, wonder if you could just seal it up with some silicone or something instead of grinding it down?

Thanks for the info guys. I will be buying the intake grate from Riva next week and now I know what to expect and how to get it to fit flush.
