    Carbon Ring

Should I have any water coming from around the carbon ring when ski is running, I'm getting a little spray from around the seal, I slid the boot foward to tighten the seal and it still leaks a little

    Thanks David N

Can be one or more of 3 things that are leaking

1)The carbon ring leaks against the Ring seal Carrier

    2) The O-rings inside the seal carrier (2 only) are defective and leak

3)The boot is split and leaking.

You will have to remove and inspect so shaft and pump have to come out.

After moving the Accordion Boot forward and retightening the Worm drive Clamp, apply some Synthetic Grease to the Zerk Fitting on the PTO Flywheel.

Only apply enough to where you *start* to see the Drive Shaft move backwards. Overapplication of grease can/will split the Rubber Grease Boot. (then you really have a problem)

Never apply *any* lubricant to the Carbon Seal itself...

The applied grease will push the Drive Shaft back and the Drive Shaft installed Clip will, in turn, push the Stainless Steel Ring back tight against the Carbon Seal.

This also helps lesson the "rattle" sound you hear when you run the unit on the trailer since as the Drive Shaft moves towards the Jet Pump it closes the Gap between the JPump Shaft and Engine Drive Shaft.

    Your Welcome David S

should the faces of the carbon ring be cleaned in anyway? I see the comment about no lubricate, should it just be wiped claen or use a cleaner on it.

Prior to installing it, you can clean the face of the carbon ring with a lint free cloth (eyeglass cleaner cloth works well) and rubbing alcohol. As others have said, don't use anything (grease, oil, etc.) on the carbon ring face. It is lubricated by the water you ride in. The same is true for the stainless steel ring that the carbon ring rides against.

The silver ring should have a smooth clean face for the carbon seal to seat on. If its pitted or gummed up it will cause the carbon ring to chatter or otherwise be moved and allow water to pass through. The carbon ring should also have a smooth shiny face to ride the ring. Any imperfections result in leaks. broken mounts and excessive engine movement also so causes leaks
