    Another Head Question (or 3!)

I have a set of Riva Rec heads for my 1300, and after reading the installation instructions I came up with 3 questions, and I'm hoping for some advice from all of you that have been down this road already -

    1. Do you need to ADD fuel (EFI controller) with this change? There is no indication online/in the directions to add fuel. I undersand the need for more fuel if more air is introduced, via power filter, holes in the bucket, etc; but with just a head swap, do I need the EFI controller installed?

    2. Do you change plugs? The directions indicate to use something like the BR8ES, but doesn't say specifically the -11 that is spec for the 03.

    3. Is the consensus to use lower overall values for torque with the girdled kit? I have the bolts, and was a little confused in searching the forum posts as to whether I should follow the torque settings in the directions or not.

As always, the advice is appreciated!

I would definitely add an EFI at this point, especially if you've already done the D plate modification or are planning to any time soon. The head will require you to change the fuel mapping and the EFI controller will do that for you.
I don't think you need to drill holes in your bucket, you could just leave the bucket out like I do if you're that worried about air flow.
I would recommend going with at least the Riva power filter, but I am running the Race filter and most guys around here have one or the other. The Race filter will flow more air.
I am running on the same plugs I did when I was stock. I don't know nearly as much as some guys around here when it comes to plugs. I'm not suffering for performance with my stock plugs though.
I am not running the girdle kit with my Riva heads so I couldn't say on the torque specs. I've heard many say that the girdle kit isn't really needed until your compression gets much higher or you go to a tripple pipe setup.
That's my .02. Best of luck.

Mile High is dead on about the controller. I would recommend adding one.

The BR8ES or BR8ES-11 will work. Just be sure they are gapped to specs.

Sorry about the on-going "discussions" about torque specs on SS bolts. I know I had some input in some of those threads. If all else fails...read the instructions

Stick to Riva's torque specs and you should be OK.

the -11 from br8es-11 simply means that the tip where the boot snaps on the plug is fixed and not screwed on like other plugs..you can also run br9es with no problems

    spark plugs

    Gents,
i am pretty sure the -11 are built specifically to accept the .44 gap our engines require. the regular BR8ES will work and you can gap them, but it puts the side electrode at a severe angle.

Just to clarify, since I'm still trying to figure all of this out -

    1. Add the EFI controller. I will, but I'm confused about the purpose of adding fuel at this point? Maybe my question should be - does changing compression via heads change the fuel/air mix to require the EFI?

    2. I can use the BR8ES-11s that I have been; gap at Yamaha spec.

    3. Use the Riva specs for torque on the Girdle Kit.

    Thanks for the help guys!
