Question 1999 gensis will not start

With lanyard off ski, it will turn over. With the lanyard on it will not even try to turn over. This is my first post and new to Green Hulk. Any ideas
    Thanks Chuck

    Welcome to the Hulk

What year and model Polaris do you have?

Your cranking problem has nothing to do with the Red/Purple CDI wire service bulletin.

No crank with lanyard in place is often caused by the LR Start/Stop module failing, or a related issue with grounding.

I have a 1999 Polaris Genesis it runs fine and when you come in for a break it doesn't start so I was thinking it was that warm re-start thing

    Carburetor or fuel injected?

When it doesn't re-start after shutting off, does it crank with the lanyard in place?

If yes, then you can try the CDI service bulletin fix with the Orange wire. The only complication is with the 1999 Genesis, I think the CDI and LR module are in different electrical boxes, so you would need to route an Orange wire between them.

no it doesn't crank with the lanyard in place but does crank with it out

Quick test the next time it happens.

Disconnect the battery negative cable for a few seconds, then reconnect. If it then starts up right away, then you are a candidate for the service bulletin fix.

    Service Bulletin PWC-00-05
Move CDI Red/Purple wire to Orange terminal for reliable engine restarts

Applies to all domestic engine carburetor Polaris PWC, two and three cylinder engines 1996-2000 (and possibly some 2001)
All later domestic engines were wired this way from the factory.
How the LR module controls domestic CDI power, and ensures reliable warm re-starts

When it is all inside one electrical box (almost all Polaris models other than some Genesis years), yes it is quite easy.

When you need to run a new Orange wire between the two Genesis boxes, that is what takes the time. Still not that hard to do.

Other than running the extra wire, it is a matter of putting the right connector end on the wire, and plugging it into the right terminal board tab.
