My GPR-TDI Diesel conversion
Just an idea right now but check it out.
a 1.9L turbo diesel out of the mk4 golf makes 148hp @4000 and 236 ft/lbs @1900rpm. and it weighs like 285lbs (longblock only, probably another 100 lbs or so with injection pump, turbo, manifolds, etc) so i crank up the boost, make 300 ft/lbs at 2K, spend a year playing with the prop and finally go zinging by.
Now tell me why my idea wont work.

Cool, was expecting more negative feedback, The fact that this motor wont rev past 4200rpm is that going to be a problem or can it be proped for low rpms?
I guess Ill start an official Build thread once i do some more critical research on the TDI motor and get ahold of a gpr hull.

At the lower RPMs you'll need a monstrous pump. Since weight doesn't seem to be a concern, put a Berkeley 12JF behind it.
But seriously, that's a lot of weight.
Any thoughts on what drop-box you'd use? How are you getting the PTO down to the driveshaft?

no clue, figure it out as i do more research, gonna try to get shell to pay for it since they love sponsoring "Clean Diesels"

Why not look into talking to VW of America. The tdi is one heck of a motor. I get 35 mpg pulling a gpr on mine. Why cant you use some some of transmission to multyply the speed of the motor.

Lots of power but going to need to multipy the RPMs some how. Thats about half what all the props are geared towards.
Also before you commit to much, look to see how low the center of the crank is in comparison to the bottom of the motor. Most everything we use in the conversions are dry sump with very low crank centers to line up with the pump.

Yeah i was gonna switch it to dry sump, the oil pan is like 7" deep
ok, ill figure out how to make a little gear turn a bigger gear
and im not set on the tdi motor. i might use a euro ford diesel that uses a graphite block, ill look into it. i have 2 more years till i get free access to the trust fund. so theres alot of time to change things around
