    1996 polaris slx780 drive system

My polaris slx780 has a problem where I can only get the the pwc to run about 25 mph. It sound like something is slipping. I had it out on the lake and tried to figure out whats going on. I here a noise like something is rubbing. I can sometimes take off from dead stop and it seem to be no problem th pwc takes off then after several seconds the noise comes back and it drops down to a max speed of about 25mph. I think the coupler that counts the drive shaft to the engine is bad. How can I know for sure?
The problem is not an engine issue

    One of two things possible

1- Drive shaft splines are stripped....happens often. Take some channel locks and see if you can rotate the driveshaft relative to the coupler. Usually the drive shaft splines at the coupler give out from lack of lubrication. Need to give it a pump of grease every second ride or so. If it is stripped, you need to remove the pump. Not a big job at all.

2- Pump is cavitating. Check to make sure impeller is in ok condition and that the intake grate is free of debris.

Most likely the rubber coupler is stripped.

Remove the seat while on the trailer. Back it into the water and run it WOT.

Can you see it slipping, or smell burnt rubber?

Are there pieces of rubber inside the hull?

1996 slx 780 impeller rubber housing

I have the drive shaft out of my 1996 slx780 the drive coupler looks good to me there is no rubber shavings and I cn not see anything inside that looks chewed up. Both ends of the drive shaft the splines look good. I think the housing inside the impeller is the problem. The impeller is a solas concord can I purchase that housing seperate how do I get the housing out?
The part I looked up on Babbitts is called a
    HSG Thru Hull shaft 5431393
Will This work with the solas impeller?

The 5431393 (item 12) is sealed into the hull where the drive shaft enters the intake tunnel.

If the splines inside the impeller nose are chewed up (where the drive shaft slides into the impeller), then the impeller must be replaced.

Can you post a few clear photos of the impeller spline area, and the drive coupler splines?

    seal carrier

if the seal carrier bleeds air the pump can and will suck air into the pump and cause it to cavitate.usually you'll get water leaking into the hull when just idling around or floating

How do the pump bearings feel?

What's the clearance between the impeller and wear ring?

    assemble jet pump

I purchased a new impeller the inside of the old one was chewed up.
I am now putting the pump back together. When I put the intake grate and the ride plate back up what kind of silicone do I need to use?
