    95 SLT750 won't start

Guys, I was running this morning doing pretty well for an hour, when the engine stuttered, sounded a little funny, then stopped with a weird sound. Now it won't start at all. Towed it in, and now troubleshooting When i push the start button, there is one click, and it does not crank or anything. I opened the plug on the crankshaft, and see it rocks when i push the start button. THe battery voltage is good. I am going to follow the troubleshooting guide to check the crank system failure in the electrical box.

    Any thoughts?

Pull the plugs, and the shaft coupler cover and see if you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't, pull the pump and see if it will turn over by hand. While the pump is pulled, can you spin the impeller?

I removed the guard, and the shaft turns maybe a 1/4 inch back and forth. It does not spin freely. should the coupler be tight to the engine, or should it be backed off?

I am seeing about pulling the pump.

Yes next step is to pull the jet pump remove the four long bolts #6 steering cable and bilge siphon lines. wiggle and pull the unit out.

I have pulled the pump. The propeller spins fine, but the shaft does not.

Time to pull the heads and look for cylinder damage. It may also be a locked up flywheel from a Bendix failure.

Is this something a novice with minimal mechanical ability can do?

Ok, so I removed the cylinder heads and have taken some pictures. First cylinder is dirty, and looks like in the top center has a crater. The second piston looks ok, but dirty. The third looks corroded and pitted. No movement in the shaft at all.

    Thoughts?
