97 XP People Help me out.

I am looking at getting back into skis. I have been out for 4 years.
    I used to own a 99 gp800.
I have my eye on a pretty nice 97 xp.
    How are they?
Are they pertty good in lake chop, or do they bounce around and porpose alot?
I know they are good jumpers.
Are they okay with the occasional small passenger?
What should I look for in this used ski?
    Were these reliable?
Do all you owners like them?
Fill me in, I always was fond of them, never rode one though!

Don't expect a rocketship. They are a fun ski, but were a bit underpowered, thats why they went to a 951 the next year. Just ride it, maybe rejet it and add f/a's, maybe a bit more compression, and be done. have fun.

    What is the top speed?
Does a good ride plate help?

the shock seat hull, 97-04 XP is not the greatest jumper ever. if you really want a good jumper get a 96 xp, or a 97-99 spx, thats the X-4 hull.
the 97 xp was a bit underpowered. 800cc engine, the same engine is in the spx but a ligher ski, was a killer combo!!!
if you want the 97 xp, it is still fun, definitley a 1 person ski, with a few minor mods can be alot of fun, go for a holeshot monster, not a top speed demon
the engine is a reliable powerplant, the 800 cc engines were good, the 951 made more power but was alot more finicky.
i have owned both 800 and 951, spx and xp, i liked my 97 spx the best.
if you tewll us more about how you like to ride, where you will ride, how old you are, etc. we can offer more guidance.
i love my 2004 xpdi, but i loved the 97 spx more

I will be riding at Deep Creek Lake Maryland.
It can be smooth as glass in the a.m, and pretty choppy in the p.m.
I do enjoy toying around in the p.m with the waves,, but I do like to go fast in the a.m when it is smooth.
I do have a young daughter who likes to go out with me for a little ride. I do not go supper fast with her on it.
I have no problem putting some mods on any ski, I probably prefer to.
I just want a fun reliable ski for not alot of $.
I have a family and I do not want to spend all of our $.
By the way, I am 30 and the 97 xp is $1500 with a trailer.
Does the suspension seat really work??

The suspension seat is the nicest thing on those models. It does work, definitely.

They do ride nice. I rode one with my daughter, we were fine. Just don't expect to get 2 adults on it. If this one doesn't work, try a 96-97 GSX. I have a SPX, and a GSX is still sporty, but has a great ride. I do enjoy throwing around the SPX, but the GSX is a nice 2 seater cruiser.
