Thread: Easy RPMs??

    Easy RPMs??

Hi guys, Im installing a dynafly 14/20 on my 05 1300. Ive been reading a stock engine cant turn the prop with enough rpms.
What Is the easiest way to get more rpms? I currently have PPK, modded r&D plate, 1200 grate, syphon tube removed, drilled air screen, bucket removed, indexed plugs, and trued hull. I plan to do head and maybe reeds this winter when I dont mind the down time.

Until that time comes though where can I find some easy rpms? Im looking mostly for top speed on glass water.

My '06 wouldn't turn but 6860 rpms with that prop. After efi controller, d-plate, and race flame arrestor it would turn 7050rpm.
There are several others that have only turned 6850-6950 with the dynafly 14/20 on a stock engine.

If your going to do reeds and heads, your probably going to need an efi controller anyway, so a good first step would be d-plate and flame arrestor and efi.

Thanks guys, its becomming apparent I need FAs, D-plate and EFI controller. I will probably also try an 800 grate.
A few questions- Is Dialing in the EFI controller as big of PITA im thinking it will be?
Which will be better suited for my setup, the riva race filter, R&D power plenum, or the power filter?
While Im in there with the exhaust apart for the d-plate and FAs is there anything else I should do so I dont have to tear it apart again later?

Also I know removing the trim tabs on flat water can produce some speed by reducing drag- Am I correct in thinking this will increase RPMs? Ive read people see from 1-2 mph-- anyone know the rpm gain? Thanks for your help.

    Good thread!!

I have these mods right now

    14/20
    05 Pump
    Riva D-Plate
    Riva EFI Controller
Riva Race Filter (same thing as the R&D top filter or flame arrestor)
R&D Ride Plate (stock for the time being)
    Riva PPK
    Riva Intake Grate

and I have a head and jetworks some where in the works but I think that is going to take me a little long than planned.

I plan on being able to turn 7100 with my setup.

I ran 68.3 mph at 7200rpms (rpms gotten by Tiny Tach) on smooth as glass water that turned into slight slight chop. Sounded a little high to me but I did the same run twice in the same area going in the same direction and the results were always just over 68.

These mods I have listed are going on the bike as it is being fixed from the little problem I had. I will have new numbers next week.

In the off season I plan on adding a milled stock head, some cyl porting, and jetworks. I want to add a keyway but I need to run 89 octane most of the time so I am waiting for a electric way to do it.
