    66e rebuild advice needed

im completly rebuilding my 66e this winter. im wondering from the people that rebuilt and modified there what things should i do to mine. im planing on adding flame arrestors and having island racing rebuild the carbs. im going to put in new reeds im either stock or adding carbon fiber. what peoples opinion of the carbon fiber reeds? im also thinking about adding a 3 degree key way becuase i have heard from others it really wakes the 66e up. im really dont want cut the head because i want to keep the craft as reliable as i can. i still have a good amount of hull tuning to do to the craft and hoping to get most of my speed from there.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would cut the head it does not inhibit reliability, unless you get crazy on the compression. Bumping it up will give you better low end punch, keep it in the 145 PSI range and you will be fine.

I agree with Bill that you should bump up the compression. 145 is very mild on a 2 cylinder 2 stroke motor. I think if you talk with Lowell or some other tuners they will tell you 165 psi on pump gas is fine.
Keyway from Island/Carl was the best money I have spent on my xlt800.
I ran VF3 reeds with spacer with good results on my 66e also.
Buy a 11/14 prop if you are still running the stocker

thanks im gona do every thing you guys said except the vf3's there wicked expensive and id like to keep the cost down. ill probably go with the stock reeds. i mean the main thing is i just want to rebuild it. if i can do a few cheap mods while im at it i figured i go for it. the key way and heads are cheap enogh.

and i was planing on the prop but i was gona wait another season and redo the whole jet drive. i have 200 hours on it and im sure with the new motor ill put alot of hours on it next season.
