Thread: Used Ultra?

    Used Ultra?

I am looking for a ski.
    I stumbled across a 2001 Ultra 150 for $1300.
He had the motor rebuilt and all of a sudden lost compression in the center cylinder??
    Does it just need rings?
The boat is in very nice condition.
I am looking for a fast fun ski that is great for solo riding, but is stable with 2 up. My little daughter really like to go out with her daddy.
Should I go for it and start a winter project? Even mod it up a little in the process?
Are there mode to put on to make in handle the lake chop better?
    Extended nozzle, ride plate, grate?
    Thanks!!!

^ Buy it! Real good deal. You should be able to get it up and running w/ all the added handling mods for under $1000 or so. Add a R&D ride great, R&D ext. nozzle, Shred Master ride plate, Beach House sponsons and you will be set. Good luck on the project. Show some pics of it!

    okay, it is a 1999 150.
I can get it for 1300!
He totally rebuit it, new nickle cylinders.
He rode it for 17 hours, then it quit!!
the 1 and 3 cylinders have 120 psi compression.
    The center, none??!!??
    What do you guys think?
He said it might just be the gasket, it might not have been torqued right and lost compression??

I would go look at it and feel the bottom of the motor under #2 to be sure it doesnt have a hole through the bottom. What kills alot of ultras is a cracked oil line on #2 and that may be what happened here. I would definately be interested in it but might still try to get it down some.

    Yeah what he said

The ultra is fast and fun but not the most stable thing in the world. If you ride flat water its ok 2 up but if its rough it sucks.

I agree^. The Ultra in my opinion is the last true 2 seater ski. Which means it is awesome riding solo and sucks with a passenger especially over 130 lbs. It is a pint sized rocket ship that is not meant to excel in rough water and chop. You will either love or hate the ski. I love my '05 and wouldn't trade it for any other ski out. Get in order: Shredmaster rideplate $325, Worx intake grate $100, Beachouse sponsons $275?, and R&D extended nozzle $90 and you will be amazed at the handling improvements. This ski is prone to J hook without at least the Shredmaster. You might want to ask him if it is an early model '99 with the hot ignition that takes expensive plugs. The reason being is because these seem like they are more prone to needing rebuilds because they don't last as long on a set of rings and pistons.
