is the salt on the ring around the actual catalitic part or actually in it? shouldn't be in it.

Yes these things fall apart all the time and tend to be rusted out in a short period of time. Being in FL with the salt water, I have seen several of these where it has really eaten at the rings where the water passes through. The D plate is one of the best things removing that problematic CAT.

the salt is from running it in salt water, the cooling water runs around the pipe. and yes the cat converter does fall apart in these things.

so after the D plate was in and the little temp sensor thing the exahust heat alarm goes off when i start the ski.. but if i take the chip out and just plug the sensor back in no more beep... will the warning come back after i run it for a while? whats the best thing to do here? some say i dont need that chip, some say i do, some say to get something from radio shack and do something with it.....

the radio shack thing would be putting a resistor in between the two lines going to that sensor. different years needed a different resistance so might want to search for the right answer. my 03 took a 1k Ohm resistor it. you need to do either or. i dont think it will 'not beep' for long. it's a temp sensor.

I run my 06' with the temp sensor in. Myself and James K tried the resistor vs. OEM cat temp sensor plugged in without and difference. Been running mine plugged in the whole time. The cat temp chip freaks my ski out.
