new to forums have a question

so im new to pwc's and in my quest to make my machines as reliable as possible i have already changed over my fuel lines and cleaned the carbs and replaced filters.

i also wanted to change my pump oil and when i took off the cone of the one machine nothing but water came out, probably because of the o-ring being pinched. not sure how long the machine ran like this because i have only used it a few short times since purchasing it this spring. however while monkeying around with it i noticed that the cone does not really want to sit flush on the housing even with the o-ring off, it seems the end of the shaft hits the interior structure of the cone, is this normal, is the cone supposed to be snugged down with the bolts or should it sit flush without them?

sorry if my rambling doesnt make sense i dont know how else to describe it.

Your talking about the impellar shaft? If that had water in it, it's a good idea to replace both of the needle cage bearings in it. Usually if the cone loses oil it will heat up and melt the cone right off and then you need to rebuild it and get a new cone.

Is there a spring and a plunger type piece inside of the cone?

when i ran the boat a couple times early this season it seemed like it was fine and there is nothing to indicate that it got hot, no melting, it came off very easily didnt even have to pull it came off when i loosened the bolts, and no there is no spring inside the cone.

There is an updated plunger type kit that you can buy that puts pressure on the impellar shaft, keeping it from sliding back and forth and making the noise it makes. I was just wondering if someone had bought one of those and that might be the problem with your shaft sticking out more.

Take the impellar shaft out and take soem pics of your cone and the inside of it.

here are some pictures of the impeller shaft and the inside of the cone also one so you can see that it wont sit flush and after looking at it for a while i noticed that the flange was kind of dog-eared from the bolts...

where are you in michigan butch?
