    WELCOME to the Forum!!

With the rubber encased unit, you won't feel as much engine/drive line vibrations through the hull.

That's very difficult to answer as many factors are involved.

    Weight of craft and riders
    HP of engine
    Driveline/engine issues (ex. bent driveshaft)
    Wave or lake use etc.
I would say typical use will not really apply here but I do have a 96 SLT780 with 250 hours and it's still on the stock unit.
I have a modded SL750 that everybody beats to death (cavitates the pump, overloads the ski, jumps etc.) which tears them up in roughly 100 hours of use. I now just keep the slim non-insulated coupler on this boat.

I'd verify the driveline (drive-shaft/impeller, thru-hull assembly etc.) is in proper working order while you have it apart.

    Welcome to the Hulk.

Get the SS coupler IMO, they seldom fail.
