1300R and the two stroke world

    Hey Guys,

I am selling the Speedster Boat and will be looking for a Ski to replace it. Jacksonville seems to have a bunch of riders (Mostly RXP's) but I have been a fan of Yamaha.

I had a LX2000 Jet Boat (Twin 135hp 2 strokes) Loved it, but the MPG was arounf 1!

I had an old School GP-800 that was a blast on the waves.

I am now wondering if I should look at the GP1300R or mabey even the GP1200R?

I want to be able to keep up with te DOO's around here and I like the build quality (hull) on the Yammys.

I have read a bunch of pages and I see some engine failures on the 1300R. Is this the typical 2-stroke type rebuilds or was it because of a defect? I know the 4 stroke is more reliable and a little better on gas, but is the EFI in the 1300 a nice upgrade?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Its always fun to go flyng by the rxp,250x,sho when you only have 165hp and $1000 into your ski. I have very little experience with jetskis but I would imagine that the EFI ski would prove itself to be more reliable than a 1200r

an EFI 1300R is more than capable of keeping up or blowing away rxp's with a few mods.

as far as how reliable they are, its up to the owner and how the look after it for the most part.

Well put... the 1300 efi can be pretty much a bullet proof ski if set up right.. I like to hold the throttle wide open all day..

    Joe,
    Whats your budget?
If it gets close to $7k I would consider Wash's ski.

The 1300's are better. EFI is a great thing.
The '05+ is better due to less moving engine parts and better jet pump.

is there some other way to ride i am not aware of?

the guys are right tho, if you want a 1300R already worked silly and setup for reliable use go for piston wash's, its all done and dusted and man knows what he is doing so you know it was done right.

If your going to mod it anyway in the end it will be cheaper to buy it already built.

That 1300r is slick! Looks very fast. A little over my budget though (although its a smoking deal for a animal ski)

I should be able to find a good deal on a stocker this winter when the boat is sold. I will just do basic mods on the grate, impeller..ect.

The 1300R should walk over the new FX HO , correct?

IZZ0, What are the main differences on your two 1300r's? I am looking at 04 (mabey 05).. I didnt know they made them in 2002.

    Thanks,

    Joe
