    Timing Issues Slx 780

I recently had to replace my stator in my jet ski. After I thought I was done I took it out and found out my timing was off. So I reclocked the stator and had the timing, what I thought was good. Then I took it back out and it ran great for about 30 min. Then it sounded like the timing was off, so I pulled it out, messed with it. Then put it back in and it ran good untill i topped out. Now its back to how it was and wont go above 4000 rpm. Can anyone help me???

    Any warnings on the display?

That model has limp mode for
    1. Low Fuel
    2. Overheat.

Borrow one from an auto parts store.

You have to know the engine condition before trying to diagnose an issue.

Yes it could. Sounds odd that it would limit you to exactly 4,000rpm, (of course you may be "roughly speaking) but yes, a holed exhaust coupler can kill your rpm's. That needs to be fixed pronto.

Those 96's have some pretty hot timing down low. How many degrees do you have at 3000rpm?

An engine won't run for crap if exhause is getting in the hull. Your hose is definately a problem. You could try running it with the seat off (depending on the size of the hole) to see if some fresh air helps it out.
