Good questions. I'm new at this too and would like to know the best way to handle scratches. Also, what is the best way to handle the exterior? Regular car wax, etc.?

There are allot of boat wax's out there.
Just buff any marks out that you can and deal with the others.

I found a good fix is Krylon. Spray some in the cap and then take a art paint brush(small) and bead up some paint to match the color. It takes care of the scratch well.
