    Angry Thown from 1997 GP1200

Question for anyone else this may has happened too.

i just bought this ski and was racing my son on his XPL down the lake wide open and when I left off the gas I was thrown into the handle bars, which I bent and then a beautiful side mount at like 50 MPH.

The ski appears to have the RIVA groovy plate on it and the rest apears to be stock.

My XPL has never been bad to be like this dam thing.

Any fixes guys. I am more of a lake guy than ocean.

    Thanks, Scott

Does your ski still have the stock plastic trim tabs on it? If so they are probably sagging in the middle and water is getting between them, and slowing you down, and causing weird handling issues. My stock tabs broke off after two weeks of owning the ski because they were sagging some much and the drag from the water ripped them off.

The GP is a very stable and predictable hull. There are aluminum replacement tabs for the stockers. Also, the Groovy ride plate is not the best one to have. The riva limited edition plate, R&D, and shredmaster (good in rough water), are much better plates.

The stock trim tabs are still on the hull, guess I''ll have to get some new ones and change the rideplate.

The ski has a stock engine with proks and is turning 6950 rpms, does this sound correct.

It will accelerate out of the hole right with my xpl with no hesitation.

    Thanks for for info Sleeper

When my tabs broke off (12 years ago), the ski started leaning to the left real hard and started porpoising. When I got back to the ramps the left tab was broke. A few days later the right one broke off.

Are you going my the stock tach for your RPM readings? A stock GP1200 turns 6750, you might have gained 50 with the aftermarket F/A's. Trim tabs that are sagging will slow you down 5 mph.

I did not have much seat time with a stock grate, but I guess it's possible it can throw you like many other stock grate ski's do.

Getting 6950 rpm with a PET Tach.

he GP does not hook in any particular direction until I hit the bars.

GP brakes better than a Corvette at high speed.

Thats very impressive RPM's. I am leaning towards your impeller housing being worn an out of specification which allows the impeller to spin easier, therefore the RPM's are high. Look underneath at the intake grate and make sure everything the bolts are tight, but be careful they break easy.

once a gp hull drops back into the water off plane slows pretty quickly... your groovy may add a little more drag... yes check the tabs and even possible water in the hull or loose storage items shifting forward under fast deceleration..as mentioned above chech your hub/stater section for bent veins.. this will let the hull drop down on a bubble of water and throw the backend up,shifting the skis and your's, balance points...

I thought this was a normal occurance on skis in general. Same thing as no gas no turn. No gas no go. Looks like i am def. sending out the money for my new tabs today...
