So how long are your big bore motors lasting?

I would imagine that with increased performance comes decreased service life, true of everything on this earth.

Also, anyone know who makes stroker kits?

I'm sure I could ask the pro's, who build the motors for the masses, but I figured I'd ask the forum as a whole first.

it's all about tuning. you run it lean...KABOOM!! that's why people run rich to be on the safe side. as far as stroker kits you might want to talk to waterwoody....i know he has one as well as ben herman (i think). quite few tampa boys run BB with no problems.

Hello Dave in this area all our 1390 have been holding up for years, And running some high numbers. Rosses 1390 has been running for over 3 years with no issues and we all ride every week and put lots of hours on our ski's. A friend of mine had an issue with hotrods crank but the cylinders were still good.

As others have said, I don't see why a big bore alone would reduce service life, as long as it's tuned right. High compression? Sure, that would increase wear on the motor, but most people aren't running extreme compression (i.e. 180 psi or less)

I had no clue if a BB on its own would decrease service life I just assumed it would. Thats why I asked the Q? How long has your 1460 been holding up?

It only has 25 hours on it, compression is 160-180 psi. I plan to check compression every 20-30 hours or so; it has a new OEM crank.

Proper warm-up is especially important for a big bore, to prevent scuffing and/or cold seizure.

the touchy thing with the BB is the Pistons. They like to swell up.. Got to keep them cool

Anybody heard of anyone using water/methanol? Or is that just a 4 stroke thing?

They're fine. Like I said, the biggest issue is cold seizure and scuffing if you don't warm it up properly. I owned a KX 500 dirt bike (single cylinder) for years and had zero issues with it, piston looked fine at tear down. I always ran full synthetic pre-mix at 32:1, but I'm running 40:1 on the waverunner

Btw, if you've never experienced a ported 500 two stroke MX bike, go ride one.....
