Need some help
I have a 98 XPL with the 951 engine. It has run pretty good for the past two years. Today I went out riding and I shut it off, it would not start. I found the main fuse was blown in the MPEM. I replaced the fuse and it started fine and ran well for about two hours. On the way back to the boat landing I hit a small wake and the guages suddenly went to zero and the engine coughed like you pulled the key and put it back on really quick. It was still running so I tried to make it the rest of the way to the boat landing. I was going pretty slow about 20 Mph and it seemed ok. I sueezed the throttle real quick to trun around and it stalled. Now it will nto start I checked all the fuses they are fine. I checked at the selenoid and it will crank the motor over so ground and positive should be OK. I am leaning towards either the post or the MPEM. What do you all think? Does anyone have a MPEM for sale reasonable? Can I take the post from my 98 GSXL to try it in my 98 XPL as long as I use the XPL key I thought that would help eleminate that. No beeps and gauges dont do anything when you put the lanyard on. It was running so well. We where using the GPS and seeing how fast they would go and stuff and I was fastest LOL until I needed a tow anyway. 63.4 MPH GPS was about 65 MPH on speedo I think I could get 1 maybe 1.5 MPH more because I have seen 67 -68 MPH on speedo before.

Swap the lanyard post and try that first. What amp fuse blew on your MPEM?

DGHAL nothing happens at all the gauges dont move when you put the lanyard on it doesnt turn over etc, nothing at all.
96XPSS will the post rom my 98 GSXL work? Do I use the lanyard from my XPL on it? It was the top fuse and the one in it was a 15 amp and I replaced it the first time with a 15 amp. The second time it did it, the fuses where all fine I did try another 15 amp just in case I couldnt see it was bad and still nothing.
I would love to get out of this for a lanyard post, but I want to be sure I test it right. Thanks everyone for your help.
PS the motor will turn over if you jup the selenoid in the box on the front so I am sure the battery, ground, starter and engine is not siezed.

The GSXL post is the same but the plug may be different. Sounds like a post but it could be a fuse. Did you check the fuses in the electrical box?

I checked all of the ones in the MPEM. Where are the others?

I didnt see any, but I will check again. I must be missing some fuses. I only saw the few of them in the slot on the MPEM

I am not sure on the MPEM interchange,, maybe look up part numbers for both online and see if they are same
Sorry I thought it was cranking over.
Hope you get a easy resolve to this
