New North Carolina Boating law 1-01-2010

North Carolina Senate Bill 43 was ratified by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Beverly Perdue last Friday. The law requires boaters born on or after Jan. 1, 1984, to be certified by passing a boating safety course before they can operate any water craft with a 10 horsepower-or-larger motor.
The law pertains to all bodies of water in North Carolina and not just Lake Norman.
Jeff Stewart of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 26 told the Lake Norman Marine Commission on Monday that the bill is a watered down version of the original. The auxiliary had wanted certification to be required for boaters of all ages with a $100 penalty for violators.
The new law subjects violators to court costs only

any one younger than 26 years old must now take the boating safety course befor operating a boat/pwc/vessel on North Carolina waters . I think this was a good idea!

it boggles the mind how many mindless boaters their are on the waters today......you think you have a problem up there????

LOL......come down here on a holiday weekend.....you're eyes will pop out of you're head.
Not proud of it(and i love my state)but the state should require a boating course for any vessel(s) down here(imo)
you can go to a dealer, but a 40 ft yacht, and float away without ANY certification whatsoever.
something wrong with this picture.....the "flori-da" slogan comes to mind.

check with the N.C. wildlife office www.ncwildlife.org or the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in N.C. Try this link http://ncpaws.org/boatingsafety/coursesearch.asp

Actually it depends on your age.
If you are 21 years of age or younger in Florida, you are required to get the Boating Safety Education ID Card to operate any powered watercraft over 10hp including PWCs, and you have to carry the card.
