    05 RXT starting issues

So mt 05 RXT has been having an intermittent starting issue. I will stick the DESS lanyard on the post, get 2 strong beeps, hit the start/stop button and only hear a click. Sometimes it takes 30 button pushes to start, sometimes it's the first hit, but (so far) it has started each time. I'm afraid that I'll end up stranded on the lake eventually. I've searched on here, but it seems that everyone that has a problem like this the ski would not start at all. I'm sure it could be the starter relay, but I wanted to get some advice here first.

Possibly the starter solenoid; common problem.
I had one replaced under warranty last year.
It always started, but sometimes it took several button pushes,
I guess they resolved it, never had a problem again.
Also; check your battery cables just to be sure they're not loose.

Well....could be a loose ground...maybe the starter relay, though mine would never start when it was the relay.

Relay or bad connection or cable. Replace relay, it is cheap, and check all the battery connections. How old is the battery? May need replacing too.

    I'd never get 5 tries on a bad battery....let alone 30.

You could if it had a bad cell but wasn't dead. Enough amps to engage the relay but not turn the starter. I've never heard of it on these SeaDoos but a bad spot in the starter and you keep hitting the start button till it bumps the starter enough. Granted 20 would be a lot but I allow for exaggeration. The starting systems on 4-tecs remind me a lot of the older Fords that had the solenoid on the firewall. I've had a couple of cars that you had to hit the starter with a hammer to get it off the bad spot also.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm gonna call the stealership in the am and get a relay. Hopefully, that will cure the problem.

VA Redneck- I see from your signature that you're running a 14/19 prop. Is that due to the fact that you have the s3 sc and other mods? I'm working on piecing together a stage 1 kit, and having trouble finding a 14/17 as riva recommends.

Does it click each time you press the start button or just every now and again? If every now and again it is the start button. If it clicks every time the start button is pressed then hopefully is just a relay. It is a cheap replacement to start at anyway.

Yes, each button press = 1 click. I do not suspect the button due to the fact that it clicks each time, so an electrical connection must be taking place. Sometimes it will fire on the first button mash, and sometimes it takes a while (I counted 17 times on Monday) When I pulled it on the jet dock Monday afternoon (after a ride), it started every time I hit the button (about 10 times). Later on (again after a ride) it would not fire (enter 17 times of button mashing).
