96 SL 700 Needs more power out of the hole.

    Hay,
First, I need to say thanks to all that posters! k447,starflight,xlint89 and the person who signs of with Cya ya are just some of the great people on this site. I took two dead polaris and got then running because of you! thanks. Now I got the itch bad. and the water is still 88 degrees down here in Florida.

Ok, my sl 700 needs more low end power, I was going to change the impeller prop. What kind or size? Is their a better way to get more power out of the hole. Losing top speed is ok. And again Thank you everybody!!

try a 12/17 swirl impeller (stock part number 5131457) or bore the exit nozzle to 87mm

    Welcome

What condition is the engine in?
    Compression, porting, aftermarket stuff?

Does it have the original ignition system installed?

Pick up a spare exit nozzle and have it bored. Are your pump bearings good?

The engine compression 125 on both. the main problem it had was with the gray fuel lines and gumed up carb. How can you tell if it's the original ignition system? no aftermarket items, all stock. with two people (325 pounds) is that a problem with a 700? it sames to run great to me. it viberates for the first 20 feet with wot. is this normal?

nut-1 I'll check the pump bearings, I never did check.

The part number on the CDI will tell you if it is original or Update ignition.

What condition are the impeller, stator, and wear ring?

What is the blade clearance to the wear ring?
Maximum spec blade clearance is 0.020", but a good clearance is 0.010" or less.

Vibration from the jet pump is either cavitation or ventilation. Ventilation happens when there is an air leak into the jet pump, and the impeller is drawing air in when you accelerate from slow speed.

Cavitation happens when the impeller cannot maintain a grip on the water, and vacuum bubbles form in the water flow into the impeller. Often caused by damage impeller or stator blades.

Both ventilation and cavitation cause reduced pump thrust, increased engine RPM, and pump noise.

    Welcome to Green Hulk.
I really doubt the 700 has enough power to over power the impeller, that 12/17 should give it a good hole shot.
Like K said, make sure it is not worn and your stator is in good shape.

I think the vibration your talking about is a missfire.
Both 96 SL700's I have ,I think both had a rich missfire from the mid jets being too big (about 20 feet, than it runs off the high jets) I'm sorry to say,I have other problems with it and have not figured out the correct jetting yet.

Make sure you don't have a missfire from the plugs or wires (trim the plug wires so it has fresh wire )

If your pump bearings are bad now would be the time to upgrade to a 6 vane SS pump stator. You can not get a lower pitched impeller that I know of you'd have to get yours tweak by a pro. Anybody know of a better impeller???
