Question Need help, I think my engine is toast?

2005 RXP with 36 hours? Changed out the clutch washers to RIVAS today and went out to the lake and everything was running fine for about 1 hour. Let off the throttle all the way, engine started to bog and run rough and then just died. Tried to start it several times to no luck. Not sure what caused this, any suggestions on what I should do next? I was thinking I should pull the head to look? Can any provide a link on how to pull the head? Can you pull the head with the engine still in the ski? Thanks for the help.

how can I check to see if that is the case? If that is the case what do you think the damage will be? Will I need to have a new engine?

When you say it will not start. Is this because the engine is locked up or will it spin over, but not start?
The way I see it. The only way the piston will hit the spark plug is if you have the wrong sparkplugs or you have spun a rod bearing. Pull the oil filter and see if there is any metal particles in it.

After it died it would crank over about 2-3 times and then nothing. This happened about 10 times trying to start it then it would not do anything after that, not turn over at all.

Welll if it broke a valve. Pull the rocker cover. Remove the rocker shaft. Used shop air to pressurize the cylinder. With the rocker shaft off the valves should be closed. If air leaks out of the exhaust valve then the exh valve is probably broken. If there is metal in the oil filter then it's probably a rod bearing.

Missed the part where you mentioned the piston was damaged. Agree with Danny...

If you pull the rocker, the broken valve will pop all the way UP

The plug is damaged from the bouncing valve end...

Lost a valve. if the piston hit it i dont think you would of got the plug out. valve let go and the piston smashed the pieces into the plug. If the piston looks messed up thats why. Id pull the head, If you can lock the crank and cam befor you take the timing chain off then pull the head and see what the damage is. hope you dont have to much damage, 04-05 are known to have bad valves.

Can someone give step by step on how to check to see if it dropped a valve and how to remove the head to look at the piston?
