    2008 RXT-X storage lid spring

I have a 08 RXT-X I opened the storage lid and noticed it would not stay opened, I took the bin out and noticed the spring that holds the door up had came off the top mount. I then tried to compress the spring in order to reattached and was unable to compress the spring. After taking completly out of the ski, and putting all my wieght on the spring it finally started to compress.
    1. Is this normal for the spring to be this hard to compress
    2. If so , what can be done to reattached to the boat due to it being so hard to compress.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
