    Question Top End Rebuild

    Hey guys i need a little advice i have a 2002 XLT 800 and i just put new SBT pistons in it cylinders had no damage honed them with WD-40 ring end gap was within specs and now the #1 cylinder has lost comp with only 2 hours run time and i looked in the plug hole with a light and it looks like there is a tiny chip out of the side of the piston, oil pump block off kit oil mix 50:1 any help would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to the forum.

    was engine pressure tested?
    have carbs been rebuilt?
    install new pulse lines?


    pics of the cylinder bore/piston and head will help.

    You mean compression test?
    No carbs wernt rebuilt
    no new pulse lines
    i will take some pix when i get the head off




    was engine pressure tested?

    Start your post then click on the Manage Attachments button to upload.

    Pressure testing the motor is performing a "leak down test" to confirm that the motor has no air leaks. Plenty of threads on this.

    last failure was caused by a bad oil pump but i installed the block off kit with the new pistons

    Those pics look very lean.... Almost no piston wash at all!!!!

    but would lean cause this problem with under 2 hours run time?
