    Sl900 ignition upgrade kit

    Hello everyone. I have just rebuilt a 1996 sl900 with new pistons. Machine had spark(intermitent) but had spark. Got done with rebuild and it was the same, but then without changing anything it had no spark. So i posted it on this site to see what you guys thought and everyone said ignition upgrade. So i bought a upgrade kit and now i have no spark still. If anyone has any ideas it would be great to here them. Thanks

    Refer to this thread for some relevant checks;
    polaris virage 700 no spark

    When you had the flywheel off, was there any damage to the flywheel magnets or timing hub?

    I didnt see anything wrong with the magnets. When checking the voltage from the battery while cranking the motor over, do i put my multi meter on the battery terminals or the wires connected to the cdi?

    You want to confirm that the voltage right at the CDI is good.

    I recall another member recently reporting that the timing hub in his flywheel lost its magnetism.

    I have no idea how that happened, or how common it might be.

    Really..how can i test it or fix it.

    Have you checked the Hall Effect sensors yet?

    Polaris Domestic (red) engine

    How do I test old and new domestic red engine CDI, Magneto and Ignition coils?

    Hall effect sensor? I will have to check with the mechanic to see...Ive never heard of that, what is it?

    Unlike some older ignition systems, the domestic Polaris engines use a Hall Effect sensor to trigger the CDI spark.

    A Hall Effect sensor is a small electronic device that senses the passing of a magnet, and switches from high to low ohms. The CDI sees this change, and fires the spark accordingly.

    There is one sensor for each cylinder, and they are located inside the stator. The timing hub in the center of the flywheel has small magnets that rotate past the sensors.

    The Hall Effect timing magnets are completely separate from the outer flywheel ring magnets that supply bulk electrical power to the battery and also power (excite) the CDI high voltage.
