    96 xp motor locked up tonight, what caused this? see pics

    what caused this?

    to lean?
    oil pump?
    overheating?

    the pic of the bad cylinder is the pto cylinder

    actually a whole lot of things can cause that,,

    what was being done shortly before the failure?

    Can you get a clearer straight-down-from-the-top photo? One that we can blow up would be nice too. Also, one of the dome on the head?

    my son was trying to pull a 12yr old on skis it happened right as he took off

    DETONATION my friend..

    Too much load on the engine.

    I have slalom ski behind it before and no problem??
    I am alot bigger and a slalom is a lot harder to pull up???


    hopefully just needs pistons????

    Pistons and possibly a bore. I'd change the piston pin bearings too.

    I've never seen one flake like that before. Very unique!

    it had even more crud on top when I pulled it apart

    some fell in the ports when I rotated the motor

    I don't know what the state law is where you live, but in Michigan if your pulling a tube or a skier you need 2 people on the ski. One to drive the craft and one to observe. Pulling tubes and skier is best suited for a 3 seater, not a 96xp. They have a combined weight limit of 325lbs. Im sure pulling the skier with that craft did those pistons in along with other issues like old fuel lines and maybe bad gas.
