Question Flat Battery on our 2002 GTX 4-tec

Hi Guys, has anybody got some thoughts on this problem ? A couple of months ago when out riding, my wife`s ski for some reason, lost the information on the LCD Gauge Cluster. The ski was still running fine at the time and could be stopped and started okay. Eventually the battery went flat and the ski would not start.
We took the ski home and recharged the battery and the ski started up okay. We noticed that there was some water on the inside of the LCD Gauge cluster though and that not all of the display was working. (No fault codes or anything like that though). Two beeps when you plugged the lanyard onto the post, so it seemed okay.
Managed to get the Gauge cluster out of the hood and got it apart, to get the water out of it. Managed to get the water out and dried out the circuit boards over the next couple of days. Rebuilt the Gauge cluster and refitted it to the hood. Everything seemed to work fine, the ski would start and stop okay and the Gauge cluster appeared to be back to normal.
Two or three days later though, the battery was flat again. As the battery was original, i though that it was just a case of a dud battery, so bought a new one, charged it up and fitted it to the ski. Ski was fine for about two weeks with no problems. We haven`t used our ski`s for about eight weeks until we went to go out on them yesterday. My ski, the T-X started first time but the wife`s ski would not start as the new battery was dead flat. Charged the battery today and refitted it, ski fired up first time. Again as before, LCD Gauge cluster is working fine, no fault codes and two beeps when you plug on the lanyard. Everything looks to be okay. Have priced up a new LCD Gauge but reluctant to buy it, incase this is not the problem. Thoughts would be most appreciated.

Sound like the charge system may have a shorted. What voltage are you reading when the ski is running? Should be around 13 to 14.5 volts. Have tried disconnecting the battery while it is running to see if the it will stay running?

Thanks for the quick response. I`ve just checked the voltage and it`s 14.07 with the ski running. When i remove the negative lead from the battery with the ski running, the ski stops instantly.

Wow, you got 8 years on an OEM battery! That's unheard of. Do you ride in fresh or salt water? If you ride in fresh water then the damage to the electronics isn't nearly as bad as if it was salt water... Ron

Hi Ron, we ride in salt water only unfortunately. No fresh water lakes here. The sea was pretty rough on the day our troubles started though but we`ve been out in far worse. Have basically stripped and checked every connector on the ski and rinsed them out with WD40. Cleaned and checked all of the earths as well. Fog the ski`s after every use, because we run them in the sea. Looking like im going to have to take it to the nearest Doo dealer but he`s a four hour drive away.
