    SL 1050 igintion upgrade project

    ok so im finally ready to start workin on my ski.. first up taking the tank out! any tips or things i should know taking the tank out??? ill be ordering the update kit from john zigler.. any one have info about him? read good things about him on this forum.

    I don't know about that guy John Zinger, but John Zigler is a good guy! can't go wrong dealing with him.

    first don't mess with the tank.i don't think the 12.3 gallon tanks will come out the front,i believe the motor has to be removed and then the tank comes out the back hole.

    then how do i get at the stator? i dont think the hole is big enough for me to get at it with the tank there..

    would have to go at it through the motor opening.if anybody else has done it chime in.might be easier to yank the motor.pull the pump assembly and driveshaft out.remove the red exhaust pipe.remove the carbs,unbolt the motor and lift it out,there are shims under each corner they have to go back the same way.i would suggest lifting just the front up first and pulling the shims out from each corner and zip tie together and mark which corner,then do the rear.it could be done in the hull but the biggest issue is the flywheel puller fitting between the tank and motor.i've got a flywheel lock and puller for doing this.also there are 2 screws on the flywheel towards the center do not loosen these,only the big nut in the center holds it on

    On the '97' SL1050,you need to remove the fuel tank inorder to do it in the hull,it will be a bit of a stretch to reach the stator,once you have the tank loose-you need to remove the sender unit to clear the body ,it will come out. ( p.s. better if the fuel tank is empty or close to empty)

    so you think the tank will come out of it? thats what i was thinking i didnt think you had to pull the motor if i got to do that then thats way out of hands..

    I don't know if it's the same fight, but I pulled the 12.5 gal t-shaped tank through the storage opening on a 97 sl780. It was tight, but doable.

    it prob is the same.. will have too take hood off but it should be possable done it with my sl 650 with a 10 gal.. but im pretty sure my tanks a t shape
