SeaDoo Racers: OPAS or No OPAS?

If you race closed course or endurance racing, I'd like to hear from you. There's been some talk on the forum recently about OPAS again. I had heard that a lot of the racers leave the OPAS on their RXP/RXT/X skis when they race to make the turning more predictable. I wanted to see what if that held true when posing the question to the racers on the forum.

If you wouldn't mind answering the following, I'd appreciate it:

What type of racing do you do?
    What ski do you race?
    OPAS or No OPAS?
    Why?

    Thanks in advance.

Most CC guys are going to say... "keep the OPAS" I have a few friends who are very successfully CC racers on RXP-X boats... and they describe that OPAS does a great job to initiate the turns. I don't race, but ride a wide variety of water conditions on a RXP, and I can tell you that with RE's and a pump extension... there is no comparison in handling or turning compaired to stock!!!

23MMIt makes it twitchy and unpredictable.....

Leave the OPAS on! If it's not BETTER than stock WHY....? I dare Jarret to follow R88oryRXP's advice and try it for yourself. (wear a helmet when you do it)

Ask any CC racer in the UK who rides a RXP or RXP-X how they have there ski setup. They are gona all tell you same, Dropped Sponsons that does include the World Champ as well. He will be in Havasu again soon have a look at his sponsons and see where they are. Oh, that right 23mm lower than they were when he got the ski.

Yes JAWZ, people have bad luck with this mod but if you wana turn hard in any conditions there is only 1 way. People fall off coz they dont take the time to learn how there ski handles.

No you cannot drop your sponsons and just go flat out the first time you ride you will fall off.

Drop them then go and see how it handles but take time to build up with it.

I do think that the UMI steering system makes alot of difference and if a good idea when running with dropped sponsons.

On the same foot this mod isnt for every1 Its gona cost a darn sight less than any of the aftermarket offerings to go try tho. Some time and a tube of right stuff will have this done and you can go see if you like it.

It is a mod for CC racing tho. R88

keep the opas..i am a bit bigger than most racers, which makes a diffrence but it lets you kind of point and shoot into a turn..if you find yourself going a little to fast into a turn you have the ability to let off a hair and then get back on it.. it just makes the lowered sponsons work that much better.. i run a custom sponsons on my boat and it really really cuts hard.. but you will have to learn how to ride it again,or swim a little more.. have fun playing with it you will find a great combo for you..it depends on what you are doing.. cc is way diffrent than endurance.. you need to turn alot harder in cc..
