    ?'s on Riva Grate Install

I bought a Riva intake grate off a member here. I read that Seadoo uses red loctite on the bolts and people have broke their inserts taking out the bolts. Is this common? I read you can heat the bolts up, but a torch seems a little overkill down there with fiberglass and everything. I bought a mini butane torch, should I use that? I was also thinking maybe a soldering iron just touching the bolt for a minute would loosen up the loctite.

Last questions, do you need red loctite, or will the blue work?

Well with Red loctite you will need heat to get them out. Heat will melt the red loctite releasing the bolt. I personally use blue loctite and have for a long time and have never had a problem.

Use blue...just tighten up the bolts snugly and let the loctite do the work.

Your mini butane torch should work perfect! Don't even attempt to remove the outer two rear bolts without them being heated... however, be careful with the heat as the bolt inserts are in plastic!!!

The inserts are brass molded into the plactic pump shoe.

Yeah, but I am sure it wouldn't be hard to transfer the heat to the pump shoe breaking them loose. Does anyone know what you torque the bolts too?

According to the manual the 3 bolts torque to 97 IN LBS., 8 ft lbs. not very tight. Let the loctite do the work. Screw 4, up front, torques to 19 ft lbs.
