    10% etahnol in gas

Does anyone know what effect 10% ethanol on gas have on 4 Tec engines in the short or long time run. I had a bud tell me it would have detrimental effects on these engines. Any info will help. Thanks guys.

Good question. This was just brought up when I was filling my dad's boat up at the marina. The guy mentioned it doesnt have ethenol and was better for many of the marine engines.

I do know there is a lawsuit/ Class action suit in Florida against some oil companies for not disclosing what happens to the fuel tanks and some marine parts on the boat with Ethanol . trying to find where i read it.

The ethanol will slightly lean out the A/F mixture. It takes roughly 2.5 times as much ethanol as compared to gasoline to get the proper a/f mixture. So having 10% ethanol, well do the math. Also ethanol will dissolve fiberglass over a period of time. Lots of marine fuel tanks are fiberglass. That's what the class action lawsuit is about. The resin mixes with the fuel and causes fuel system problems too. Also the ethanol attracts moisture. Not good for a marine environment. The ethanol mixes with the water and will separate from the gas and end up at the bottom of the tank.

Disclosure could perhaps be the oil company's fault, but the oil companies only put it in there because the EPA makes them.

    StaBil Ethanol

StaBil now has a special Ethanol blend to help with the moisture breakdown for long term storage. I've got to top off my tank and StaBil it. Can't find the ethanol stuff anywhere on the shelf (haven't checked the big autoparts stores yet).

Also, in all of my research I've found 2007?/8 models and above have engines that are dialed in to run UP to (and no more than) 10% ethanol fuel. All the marina's around here are selling 10% ethanol gas now. At least that I have found.

Tractor Supply (www.tractorsupply.com) has the red 32 ounce Sta-Bil that treats 80 gallons of gas for $9.99 right now, if that helps. I just bought 2 quarts for my Sea Ray... Ron

So that begs the question, what really is the octane? Is the 92/93 Premiums any good? Now I wonder if running that in my Green wheel and Rude boats?

I believe the 10% Eth actually improves resistance to detonation, assuming it doesn't lean out too much.
